Fun fact: In Georgian language, Georgia is called Sakartvelo meaning 'where Kartveli live', referring to the people from central Georgian region of Karli-Iberia. The Georgian language is spoken only in Georgia.
Enjoy the up-and-coming ski center of Gudauri. Wealth of hotels, ski slopes,
and relaxing winter adventures. If weather permits, take a drive to nearby Kazbegi and enjoy the spectacular views of the Caucasus mountains.
Fun fact: THe Caucasus mountain chain is the highest in Europe! Georgia's highest mountain, Shkhara, is about 400m higher than Mont Blanc.
Visit the stone settlement of Uplistsikhe, one of the oldest
urban settlements in Georgia. This settlement dates from the Iron Age, with traces from human settlements
since 2nd millenium BC.
Fun fact: The first Europeans are thought to have come from Georgia. The archaeologists found the oldest human skull, 1.8 million years old, in the Caucasus region in Georgia.
Check out the ancient Narikala fortress overlooking Tbilisi. It was
established at the 4th century AD, and expanded by the King David of the Umayyads.
Fun fact: The name of the country - Georgia - comes from the middle ages and was given by the Christians who believed that St. George is a patron-saint of the country.
