Things to do and fun facts:

Take a Yerevan city tour.

It will take you around the city, from the Genocide Monument, the famous Republic Square, and up the "Stairway To Heaven" - a set of 600 steps that culminate with amazing views of the city and Mount Ararat!

Fun fact: The Mount Ararat (where it is believed that Noah's Ark stopped after the biblical flood) is on the national coat of arms of Armenia, but it is actually in Turkish territory!

Head down the ski slopes of Tsaghkadzor.

Armenia has one of the best ski destinations in this part of Asia: Tsaghkadzor provides not only snow slopes for winter recreation, but also a range of 3,4 and 5 star hotels ready to showcase the Armenian hospitality.

Fun fact: The Armenian Kingdom accepted Christianity in 3rd century A.D. - one century before the Eastern Roman Empire - thus becoming the first Christian nation!

Visit Khor Virap and the majestic Noravank monastery.

The city of Khor Virap is known as the place where Grigor Luisavorich - or better known as St. Gregory the Illuminator - cured King Triad from a wasting disease, and thus converted the king and the whole country to Christianity. Nearby is the Noravank monastery, built against a backdrop of stunningly red cliffs of the Gnishik Canyon.

Fun fact: Armenia is the oldest wine-making nation in the world, and owns the world's first winery!

Pay a visit to Garni temple.

An amazingly preserved Roman temple, almost 2000 years old, around which is the ancient Garni Fortress complex, is one of Armenia's most popular tourist destinations. Don't miss the nearby UNESCO-listed Geghard monastery, carved out of the mountain side.

Fun fact: The capital city - Yerevan - is considered to be one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world - it is built almost 30 years before Rome!

Visit the beautiful Blue Mosque.

Although Armenia is almost completely a Christian country, one of the most beautiful buildings in Yerevan is the Blue Mosque. It is built in a beautiful Persian style, and it is possible to visit when there are no prayers (it is an active mosque, so appropriate clothing and behavior is required).

Fun fact: The Armenian flatbread, called Lavash, is UNESCO listed and preserved!
